Three-day residential courses in stone carving

Enjoyable and instructive workshops, suitable for beginners or people with experience. Group sizes are small (maximum eight students), so there is lots of opportunity for personal guidance. There is no set project, so you can sculpt whatever you like.
After 3 days you will have learnt enough skills to continue to carve at home.

Topics include;

• Carving techniques
• How to work in three dimensions
• How to sharpen your chisels
• What tools you will need, and where to buy them
• Where to locate stone
• How to build a work bench
• How you can develop your skills further

Tuition is from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, at Uppingham School. The school is in the historic market town of Uppingham in Rutland (between Leicester and Nottingham, see map).

We stay in a lovely nearby hotel, with full board and accommodation included in the total price (see Details page). The atmosphere on the course is very friendly and many students come back year after year.
